 Types of essays

Unlike many other types of work, an essay is an artistic composition. Generally speaking, all essays can be divided into two types: those written at will and those written out of necessity. The second type are those when essays are written by the teacher's assignment. Then the student is enclosed in some framework in form and content. About this we wrote in the article "What is an essay? ". But regardless of these two types, all essays are also divided according to other criteria.

In terms of content, essays come in:

  • Philosophical - in them the author expresses a deep personal understanding of the meaning of life and death, etc.
  • Literary-critical - the author analyzes the work with an emphasized subjectivity.
  • Scholarly-publicistic - such essays are similar to an essay. Artistic - often such essays have the features of a work of fiction (short story, novella, essay, etc.).

In literary form they appear as:

  • A review is an in-depth analysis of a work (book, film, play, etc.).
  • Notes - a personal address in an informal style.
  • Diary pages - reflections on a topic in an informal style.
  • Letters - to a friend, potential reader, politician, artist, etc.

The following types are also distinguished:

  • Descriptive - most often tells the reader how to perform a particular task.
  • Causal - in such essays the author tries to figure out why this or that event happened.
  • Comparative - here the author compares two or more objects.
  • Analytical - all reflections are based on the analysis of something.
